Mum Doesn’t Tell Kids Santa, Easter Bunny Or Tooth Fairy Exist As She Thinks It’s Unhealthy

A woman has divided opinions after revealing that she's never told her kids that Santa, the Easter Bunny or the Tooth Fairy are real.

TikTok user Nevada Shareef, who posts as @nevadashareef, opened up the debate asking her followers to share 'something about the way you raise your kids that people think is weird but you think is healthy'.

She then shares her own, explaining: "So, I've never told my kids that there's a Santa Claus, Easter Bunny or Tooth Fairy - at all.

"My reasoning behind that is, I never wanted to build my children's childhood on lies. I never wanted to build their hopes up only to have them crushed later.

"I was often criticised and told I was not allowing my children to have an imagination; or I'm not allowing my children to be a child.

"Actually, I allow my children to have imaginations of their own choosing - I didn't put imaginary creatures in their head.

"They still got Christmas presents, they still got Easter baskets and I personally rewarded them and praised them for getting their teeth pulled and all other things that people normally give.

"I just didn't make them believe in something that wasn't true."

Seems fair enough when you put it like that.

And plenty of parents appeared to agree, with many saying they do the same thing.

One person replied: "I do this. I still celebrate but it doesn't make sense to lie to them."

Another said: "Same here - no Santa, no Tooth Fairy, no lies."

While a third chipped in: "I freaking love you. We're the first ones to lie to our kids and it shouldn't be that way! Girl - you did the right thing."

However, others said they thought it was harmless to let little ones believe.

One woman said: "I don't know any adults that are still upset to this day about Easter, Tooth Fairy etc... we all look back and think it was fun and innocent."

Someone else said: "I get that. I respect that, but please let them know it's OK for others to believe that stuff."

Another parent wrote: "My son has so much fun with Santa Claus fairy tales - he knows he's not real. And he knows the tooth fairy isn't real but he likes to pretend."
