Mum Explains Why She Won't Vaccinate Her Children

Mum Explains Why She Won't Vaccinate Her Children

After doing a ton of research, she thinks this is the best way forward.

In the age of dodgy information floating around on the internet, it's easy for people to believe things that might not be true.

That couldn't be truer than for anti-vaxxers.

The seemingly growing movement of people refusing to vaccinate their kids (in some circumstances despite themselves getting the jab when they were young) has been hitting the headlines in the last few years.

Some areas in the US are experiencing outbreaks of measles while the World Health Organisation listed anti-vaxxers as one of the top 10 threats to global health in 2019.

So it's always interesting to hear people defend their decision not to vaccinate their kids, despite all the evidence to the contrary.

Shanelle Cartwright, who's married to NRL player Bryce Cartwright, chose not to give her kid the jab after doing a ton of research.

Speaking on a Q&A session on social media, the personal trainer said: "I remember he [Bryce] was so defensive when I first brought it up and got angry at me for even suggesting that we shouldn't vaccinate.

"And then he read a package insert and few pages of one of Dr Suzanne Humphries books and saw vaccines under a different light. And now we're here."

Dr Suzanne Humphries is an advocate for dissuading people against getting vaccinated, saying the medicine harms people's immune systems.

The couple says they haven't vaccinated themselves (for example for the flu) since becoming aware of the other side of the story. They say that they suffer from auto-immune disorders and allergies and are in the 'slooooow process of healing'.

Shanelle and Bryce have also chosen not to give their baby nappies when it's born because they believe it's unnatural.

She said: "For this baby we are going to try no nappies and do elimination communication, especially if we have a girl.

"All mammals will instinctively NOT soil their nest and will eliminate where mum tells them to. You don't shit your pants because you know it's uncomfortable and yucky.

"Just like you teach a kitten to go in a litter box or a puppy to only go outside - you teach a baby the same."

They're happy to home school their kids if their chosen school doesn't allow them to enter because they're not vaccinated.

The World Health Organisation states: "Vaccine hesitancy - the reluctance or refusal to vaccinate despite the availability of vaccines - threatens to reverse progress made in tackling vaccine-preventable diseases. Vaccination is one of the most cost-effective ways of avoiding disease - it currently prevents 2-3 million deaths a year, and a further 1.5 million could be avoided if global coverage of vaccinations improved."
