A New Campaign Means People Are Donating Their First Polymer Fiver To Charity

A New Campaign Means People Are Donating Their First Polymer Fiver To Charity

This is so nice.

The news fivers launched last week and we all had loads of fun trying to rip them and we also tried dipping them in our tea, as though they weren't real money.

If you haven't already got your greasy mitts on one, what do you have planned for spending your first plazzy fiver on?

In my local it'll get me one pint of Guinness, a packet of salt and vinegar and leave me with Β£1.40 change, which isn't bad, is it? It's a pretty cheap pub. Instead, though, I'm going to donate my shiny new fiver to charity and I'm not alone, because dozens of people are doing it.

The idea was started by Johnny Five (I really hope that's his real name) who tweeted:

Sometimes people are just lovely and I feel like everything is going to be OK, because people loved the idea. Earlier today the hashtags #firstfiver and #fivergiver were trending as people took to Twitter to proudly show off their good deeds.

The other great thing about this campaign, other than the feels, is that you can donate to whichever charity you like - one that's close to your heart.

And for all of you miserable people who think talking about your good deeds makes them somehow less good, fuck off. It's called raising awareness. So come on, lads, I'll be donating my first fiver to CALM, what about you guys?
