Person Sparks Furious Debate After Claiming Sausage Rolls Are Better Than Pies

Pretty much every bakery in Australia will have sausage rolls and pies (and if they don't then it's either a very specific store or way off on Aussie values).

Some will just have your stock standard offerings of meat, whereas others will turn it up a notch by adding in all fancy cuts of meat, herbs and spices and whack on a double figure price tag.

But in the same way some people are savoury over sweet, summer over winter or rugby over AFL, they are also either sauso roll lovers or pie till they die. While they might seem on a level playing field, one person on Reddit has made the bold claim that sausage rolls are better than pies.

"They're just better," the person wrote. "They taste better, they're far easier to eat, the pastry is better in every way, they don't have a 90 percent chance of burning the ever living fuck out of your mouth like biting into a pie does.

"The Sausage Roll is superior to the pie and I make no apologies for that."

Well, this assertion has kicked off an almighty debate on the page, with more than 1,400 comments.

The question was hard to tackle for many, with one user saying: "Look, this isn't an easy topic to cover, what kind of pies are you talking about? If it's just a regular beef, or maybe a beef and burgundy, yeah, I'd agree, but the world of pies is vast, mate."

To be fair, there are a hell of a lot more options when it comes to pies.

You can get steak, meat, lamb, chicken, curry etc and while there are varieties of a sausage roll, there's nowhere near the same.

Another user chimed in and said: "Servo pie > servo sausage roll. Those heating bays really fuck with the pastry and without good pastry sausage rolls are nothing."

One person thought the whole system was unfair, writing: "It's just unfortunate that we live in a two Pastry system. We need to move to preference voting to give 3rd pasties an opportunity."

The sheer level of comments prompted this user to say: "Pretty sure a majority of Australia are more passionate about this than politics."

This madman came up with this concoction: "Sausage roll in a pie crust is the shit. When I had a job with a smoko van, I used to eat the filling with a spoon then cram either a sausage roll or a couple salt and vinegar chicken strips inside, put the lid back on and enjoy."

The conversation turned to the opposite of what is worse: a bad sausage roll or a bad pie and it seems like the latter won.

While there are some terrible sausage rolls out there, a really bad pie can leave you sick in the mouth and stomach.
