An adorable little boy was caught on camera handing back an empty plastic bottle that someone had chucked from their car window. Watch the video below:

In the clip, which has been shared online, the empty bottle is thrown from a parked car, prompting the toddler to walk over, pick it up and pass it back through the window. No littering on this little fella's watch.

Speaking to The Daily Mail, the boy's mum Jing Lulu said her son was most likely trying to be helpful - and had probably assumed the person dropped the bottle by mistake, so was simply returning it.

However, I like to think he was shaming the litter bug and that we have a new, tiny environmental activist on our hands.

The boy, named Sun Jiarui, lives in the city of Jining in eastern China's Shandong Province with his mum, who caught the cute exchange on camera on Monday.

Jing told the news outlet she makes a habit of filming her son when they go out for their daily walks, so managed to capture this sweet moment and share it online.

She told the newspaper that little Sun is a 'polite and curious child and always respects the elderly' - looks like he also respects the planet, if the clip is anything to go by.

Jing added: "That day, he probably thought the bottle had fallen from the car by accident. He is a very uncomplicated child. If he sees other people drop stuff, he always helps to pick up.

"He is only one year and three months old and probably doesn't have a strong sense of environmental protection, but his action taught the driver a lesson."

Here's hoping.

Jing said that once he had handed the bottle back, her son ran back to her and the person in the car didn't respond, simply winding up the window.

Since sharing the clip, Sun has been praised by social media users while the person who threw the bottle has been slammed.

One person wrote: "The baby is too cute, and the driver should feel ashamed."

Agreed.

Another commented: "Moral fortitude has nothing to do with age."

Keep up the good work, kid.
