“Vegemite tastes like back-to-back tons on your return test. Vegemite tastes like a come-from-behind victory by 251 runs."

England is still licking its wounds after Australia came from behind to clinch the first Ashes test in stunning style at Edgbaston.

While losing on home turf is a pretty soul crushing reality currently facing the Brits, the savagery against them hasn't stopped.

Vegemite is a pretty revered item in Australia and the Brits have their own version called Marmite. They taste similar however the UK version is much gloopier than the hard, yeasty perfection that is Vegemite.

But the Aussie company has decided to take out a full page ad in the Mirror newspaper, rubbing it into the English for their Ashes loss.

"G'day, news has reached Down Under that free jars of Marmite are being handed out at the Ashes to try to prove it tastes better than our Vegemite," the ad reads.

"Are you guys Barmy? Of course the refined English palate will prefer yours.

"You see, Vegemite is a far stronger taste made of resilience and fortitude with a dash of cunning and guile.

"Vegemite tastes like back-to-back tons on your return test. Vegemite tastes like a come-from-behind victory by 251 runs.

"You lot won't like the taste of Vegemite. Because Vegemite tastes like Australia.

"Catch ya at Lord's."

Savagery in the purest and simplest sense.

People have been loving the ad, with one person writing on Reddit: "When your team vows to do less sledging so your condiments pick up the slack."

Another added: "Marmite tastes like four overs and done for the series."

A third said: "Can we get parliament to quickly add vegemite into the national anthem before the next test?"

The ad is true when it claims Marmite was being handed out at Edgbaston in an attempt to rile up anyone who thought it was inferior to Vegemite. They're calling themselves the 'Marmy Army' and they'll be dishing out the product at every Ashes test.

Camilla Williamson, Brand Manager at Marmite, said: "At a time when we expect unprecedented amounts of fans of Marmite's Australian counterpart to congregate in one place, we could not resist the opportunity to encourage Aussie's to try the iconic taste of Britain's favourite toast topper, Marmite."

Yeah, nah.

The next test will be taking place next week at Lord's before the two teams head to Headingley for the all important third test match. Then it will be an all out battle at Old Trafford in September then the final test at The Oval.
