A woman who was gifted a balloon with £100 in cash tied to it was left devastated when it blew away.

Nikki Walker ended up going viral after her reaction to losing the expensive present was shared online.

Poor Nikki had been celebrating her birthday in Glasgow with a barbecue with close family when her mum Carol Walker handed her a box containing a balloon with a stream of tenners stuck to it... and well, I guess you can imagine what happened next.

No sooner had she opened the box, the balloon did what balloons do best and flew off into the sky, leaving Nikki gutted.

However, she managed to see the funny side telling the Daily Record she 'can't stop laughing' about the bizarre situation now, but does feel sorry for her mum.

She told the newspaper: "There were £100 in £10 notes attached to the balloon, it is just my luck.

"My sister came over to the family barbecue with my gifts and gave me the balloons.

"She said that one needs opened and I just opened right away and it flew right out the box.

"I can't stop laughing about it now but it is my poor we mammy I'm thinking about now.

"She's seeing the funny side also and saying it would only happen to me.

"I'm just wanting to know how far it has travelled.

"I was gong to use my birthday money as spending money for my trip to Loch Long on Tuesday."

In a post that has since racked up more than 6,000 shares, Nikki wrote: "So my mum got me this beautiful balloon with money in it and me being me opened outside and it blew away.

"Maybe some kind person will find it and try and get it back to the gutted owner."

As yet, there's no update on where the balloon landed, but Nikki is finding the whole situation 'hilarious'.

She added: "A GoFundMe has even been created, I love a good bit of banter and I'm finding it all hilarious.

"I woke up to 180 friend requests and everyone calling me the girl who lost the balloon.

"I can't believe how many people have interacted on the post, there is never a dull moment when it comes to me."

Here's hoping Nikki and her balloon are reunited soon, eh?
