A TikTok user has shared a clever hack to putting lights on your Christmas tree, but it's strongly divided opinion.

Clare Hooper, who posts as @mrsclarehoops, shared a video in which she put her fairy lights on in a zigzag fashion rather than your typical method of wrapping them around.

In the clip, Clare says: "If you are coiling your Christmas lights you are doing it wrong.

"Decorating Christmas trees used to be part of my job. We used the zigzag method.

"It means you don't waste lights around the back of your tree - and if a set breaks, you can take them off really easily."

The clip quickly went viral and has been copied by numerous other TikTok users who have praised the idea.

One happy commenter said: "How have I never know this? Makes total sense. Thank you!"

Another wrote: "OMG I never thought of this. Buzzing to do mine now."

But not everyone is on board - some have strong opinions about the 'hack'.

One person wrote: "I've never been so enraged by anything in my life.

"The tree is supposed to have lights ALL the way around it. We don't skip a section."

While another said: "But I think zigzag looks tacky as hell."

A third person questioned whether the back of the tree would look 'dull' due to the lack of lights, to which Clare responded with a clip of her brightly lit tree, writing: "Looks glowy to me."

In response to the strong opinions over fairy lights, Clare posted an update in which she urged people: "Put your lights up however you want - I just made a video about how it helps me."

She added: "I had no idea this would trigger that much conversation."

Last month, a fellow TikTok userleft her followers scratching their heads after she shared an unusual 'hack' for cooking vegetables using a dishwasher.

Yep, you read that correctly - Shannon L Doherty, who runs the @athomewithshannon account, cut up her veggies, putting them in sealed jars with a bit of water, and then put them through a cycle in the dishwasher.

In the clip, she explained: "Did you know you can cook your veggies in the dishwasher?

"This is the best holiday dinner hack. Put your veggies in mason jars, add water and run them in a normal dishwasher cycle.

"Instant veggies, best cooking hack."

If you say so.
