A man who admits he's a massive cheapskate says he only owns two pairs of underpants, and has to sniff them to see if they're good for another day. Watch him explain his unconventional saving hacks below:

He also says he blows his nose on tissues, before reusing them after drying them on the window.

Now, it's a good job that this show was originally broadcast in 2019 before the Covid-19 pandemic took hold of the world, because that is absolutely not something you should be doing.

Hell, even before the pandemic was here, you shouldn't have been doing this.

Matt Rivera is a scrupulous saver who wants to become a professional wrestler.

Matt is a wannabe wrestler.

He moved in with his mother in New York state to get his monthly expenditure down, and now says he can live on just $300 (£216) per month.

It's his career that has inspired him to live so - let's say - frugally, and he really goes the extra mile to keep costs down, including what he eats and drinks to stay in shape.

For example, he refuses to spend money on protein shakes, instead creating his own from waste.

On TLC show Extreme Cheapskates, he explained: "Protein shakes these days are $100 (£72) per container.

"What makes this protein shake different is that it's the cheapest protein shake, you see I use the (banana) peels and the egg shells.

"Extra nutrients, extra food, why waste [it]?"

This is not something you should do.

Now, that's actually a really good way of looking at things, but there are other elements of Matt's penny-pinching that are not so great.

He continued: "I keep my tissues by the window so the sun can hit them, so when I blow my nose I dry them out and use them again.

"If they're really wet I might wring them out first."

Yeah, as we've mentioned, don't do this.

As for his underwear, that's potentially the most disturbing thing at all.

Well, it's at least on a par with the tissues, anyway.

Matt said: "I actually only own two pairs of underwear."

He went on to explain that he'll smell the garments to see if they need a wash or not.

The man even makes his own tanning solution for his wrestling out of teabags, water and a spray bottle.

Gross.

Luckily, his mum - who helps him out financially when he needs it, even buying his food for him - doesn't think he's a cheapskate.

Margarita said: "I don't call my son cheap, I call my son frugal.

"I know everyone else says he's cheap but I think it's being creative."

Creativity is one thing, but even great artists should probably own more than two pairs of pants.
