A policeman who turned up to a flat to break up a reported party was shocked to find a woman partying at home with her cat and having online drinks with her mates.

Gemma Cullen, a carer from Paisley in Scotland, set up the video party with family and friends last Friday to cheer up her daughter, who had to celebrate her 13th birthday in lockdown, when the policeman turned up at her friend Melissa's house.

The friends joined the five-hour online party, dancing, playing music and joking about getting 'the next round' of drinks in.

A policeman arrived to break up what he thought was a party, but it turned out to be just online drinks.

Gemma, 34, who lives in Govan explained to The Sun: "There were six of us on the video party, all having a wee bit of wine, dancing and playing music.

"My friend Melissa in Paisley was all dolled up and dancing with her cat round the kitchen to Usher.

"She went away from the camera after a bit and when she came back on, I could see her talking to someone.

"I thought she'd sneaked in her boyfriend but suddenly a policeman popped onscreen and said: 'Hi Gemma, how are you?'"

Gemma was shocked when she saw the policeman, joking to Melissa: "You've ordered us a stripogram!"

The women were certainly surprised when the copper interrupted their video call.

But the policeman laughed, replying: "I'm not doing my stripogram tonight, ladies."

The Paisley cop explained to the online party that Melissa, 35, had been seen dancing with her cat Ciro and neighbours had assumed she was having a party while the country is in lockdown. He had turned up to check that social distancing rules were being followed.

The officer quickly realised what had happened and told the girls they were doing nothing wrong, even having a chat for ten minutes before leaving them to it.

Cops were summoned when someone confused Melissa dancing with her cat for a house party.

Gemma added: "He was so nice about it and said we'd made his night. They must be so busy at the moment and to get called out to a girl dancing in the kitchen with her cat - they could have been annoyed but they weren't. I think they're doing an amazing job."

Gemma's already planning another online party this week, which will see people she knows in South Africa, Gambia, Australia and of course Paisley all go online to have fun together.

She said: "It's good to bring a wee bit of laughter to people at the moment.

"It's about lifting the mood and bringing everyone together - even the people you don't speak to that much."
