A dad has left a scathing note for an 'anonymous passer-by' who forced him to bring down a treehouse that he'd built with his sons by complaining to his homeowners association.
The dad, who is known only as 'Dave', pinned the angry missive to a tree near to where the treehouse once stood, complaining about the person's 'casual cruelty' which resulted in the kids' treehouse being dismantled.
A photograph of the plastic-covered note was then shared on Reddit, where thousands of people have commented on the incident.
The letter begins: "Don't worry, you're safe now! Your act of casual cruelty was successful.
"The complaint you lodged with the HOA was heard. They made me take down the small treefort that I built on this location with my sons during the pandemic."
"No longer will its presence offend your walk past my house. Please enjoy your stroll free from the sound of my children's play and laughter," he sarcastically added.
The letter concluded: "They are safely back inside now, watching television I'm sure.
"Enjoy the unobstructed view of my backyard. I will try to keep it up to code."
Obviously, most of the people who have read the note have sided with the dad, who was clearly just trying to provide somewhere for his kids to play.
Some have even experienced similar problems with their own homeowners associations.
One person said: "I know we're all joking here but the beauty of this is that it's preserved in a plastic sleeve so it's not 'garbage' and it's just a paper sign so it's also not some kind of new 'structure' so likely the HOA can't say s*** about this unless they write some new rules.
"Dave even hung it with the sleeve upside down so water can't drop into it from the top."
Yep, Dave certainly wasn't messing about. He really wanted to get his message across.
Another user suggested a way that the rules of the association can be changed, because very few people actually show up to the meetings.
They wrote: "I started participating in my communities HOA with three of my neighbors [sic] after some weird architecture rules they tried to implement.
"Come to find out, out of the hundred or so residences only about eight people show up to each meeting making us a good third of the votes. Of those eight two of them were fairly reasonable and one guy proclaims himself a libertarian and votes every new rule down."
That user concluded: "If you can't beat em, join em."
Sound advice, but it's all a bit late for Dave's kids' treehouse.
