Fashion Designer Showcases 'Pubic Wigs' At New York Fashion Week

Top catwalk shows are always a bit..much. Designers like to make the whole thing pretty theatrical and show off their creative sides, so, as such, we're used to seeing off-the-wall ideas and things you definitely wouldn't be wearing down the pub to meet your mates.

Even with all that mind, one designer at New York Fashion Week has taken things to a whole new level, sending her models down the catwalk wearing pubic wigs.

South Korean designer Kaimin utilised the merkins, which are available in a range of colours and styles, to 'assist irregular silhouettes', apparently.

In a press release from Kaimin the hairpieces also helped to 'bridge the gap of hard versus soft'.

The wigs, which were pretty popular back in the 1600s, could be poised for a comeback, if Kaimin has her way. The models showed off heavily-styled wigs, with some resembling tiny mohawks.

Dale Delaporte, creative director of Prema Hair who was helping out backstage at NYFW, told Whimn.com.au: "Because the Kaimin collection has a huge central theme of pride in your body and your sexuality - although they are not mutually exclusive - we had a lot of freedom here.

"We really wanted to push the futuristic punk aesthetic of this seasons' collection and having matching hair and merkins was perfect.

"We worked hard on figuring out the best way to get them made and to have them looking as natural as possible and the results speak for themselves."

Kaimin, who has previously made outfits for Lady Gaga and Bjork, matched the wigs with Mad Max-style outfits of leather blazers and studs all over the place. Nice and understated then.

While the outfit might not be for everyone, I'm sure there's some amongst you who are just dying to give this a look a go at home but don't have the kind of cash to splash out on designer pubic wigs.
