Millionaire Woman Pees In A Jar And Raids Bins To Save Money

A woman who is already a millionaire has admitted she pees into a jar and won't shower in her own house because she wants to be as frugal as possible.

To be fair, she became a millionaire at least in part by being this frugal, and has a whole array of tactics to avoid paying out any money.

Jar-p***ing aside, she also has her appliances on carefully controlled timers to avoid electricity consumption, and likes to go out hunting through refuse to see if there are any hidden gems there.

Victoria Hunt - who is currently in her 50s - reckons she could live until she's 116 and decided to take on an extremely thrifty lifestyle in order to accommodate for the potential of such a long life.

She started out on this path when she was 28 years old and living out of a trailer. Since 1989 she has kept up with an extensive spreadsheet that details all of her outgoing and expenses.

Hunt, who now has several houses and investments from which she derives more income, appeared on TLC show Extreme Cheapskates in 2012 to explain her lifestyle.

She explained on the programme: "This cheap side of me has just really blossomed because every minute of every day has something to do with how I can make a better decision financially.

"It's a bit of an obsession."

That obsession has paid off in the end, because she was able to give up her career as an accountant and retire at 48.

Hunt, who lives in the US state of Ohio, grows her own food - which is certainly admirable - and looks for 'treasure' in other people's trash, as well as her other tactics that help her avoid outgoings.

She continued: "It's exciting. When we find nickels and dimes that's a little joy,

"It's really my hobby, so when I find something, the joy is perfect."

You might think it strange, given that she's already a millionaire, but there is method to her madness.

"I wanted to be sure I would never be poor again," she said.

"Some people like pedicures, I enjoy ways to be frugal and save money."

Her boyfriend Steve Baker added: "She's the only millionaire I know that dumpster dives."

The reason she pees in a jar, by the way, is because not only does it save on her water bill, it can also be used on compost.

"I thought, 'Wow, I can pee in a jar, build my compost and not have to flush the toilet,'" she said.

However, that only extends to her own house, as she's 'not bothered' about anyone else's water bill.

She said: "I absolutely get results.

"If we don't want something but don't want to throw it away, we set it by the garbage can or at the end of the street.

"They'll put out a stereo or a vacuum cleaner. Instead of buying a new one and burning the oil to make that stuff, I take it home, clean it and use it."

If this were simply a tale of reusing things that others have discarded, or self-sufficiency, it would definitely be an example we could all learn from.

However, unless you've got a whole heap of composting to do, you can still probably p*** in the toilet and flush it.

That bit is possibly a little bit too far.
