A mum says she was left 'terrified' after scrolling through her camera roll and finding a photo of herself fast asleep.

Now, in itself, that might not sound so scary. However, Debra Demetriou says she was home alone with the doors locked when the snap was taken - cue the X-Files theme tune.

The blurry picture, which was taken from the foot of the bed, shows Debra tucked up in bed with her eyes partially closed. She says that her phone, a Samsung S7, was under her pillow when she went to sleep and was still under her pillow when she awoke several hours later.

She only spotted the photo when she was scrolling through to check some pictures she'd taken the night before.

Debra, from Newcastle, said her oldest son had left for work around 45 minutes before the photo was taken and that her other son wasn't home either, having spent the night at his dad's. So who took the photo then, eh? Ghosts? Aliens? We need answers, Debs.

Speaking to Chronicle Live about the spooky occurrence, Debra said: "There was nobody else in the house at the time - I was completely freaked out."

After finding the photo, she checked her house for signs of a possible break-in but says everything was as she had left it the night before.

"I know you shouldn't, but my phone had been under my pillow when I fell asleep," she said.

"It was still there the next morning.

"I held down the picture to see the movement, and you can see both my arms are by my side so it couldn't even have been a selfie.

"And my eyes are half-open - if someone else had been in the room I'm sure I would have noticed them.

"I'm absolutely convinced nobody else was in the house."

Paranormal investigator Sammy Rawlinson has taken a look at the photo and she agrees it's 'spooky'.

"Spirits do things to get our attention," said the psychic. "If someone has passed in the last year it could be them trying to get her attention."

But Debra said that although she had lost both her parents, neither death was recent.

She hopes that by sharing the photo someone will be able to help explain how the picture was taken; until then, she's keeping an open mind.

"It wasn't my son, as he isn't that sort of boy plus he was at work," she states.

"And the picture wasn't even there that morning and nobody else even has a key.

"This has just left me so worried and scared."
