It'd be pretty bad to lose a stack of money while gambling, knowing that there's no way to get it back - but that really is nothing compared to one man, who gambled with his actual family. And lost.

The Times of India reports that a man in India - known only as Moshin - was divorced by his wife after gambling their child away in New Delhi. Hardly surprising, because if there's any grounds for divorce, we imagine it's going to be that.

And somehow it gets worse, as it turns out Moshin originally gambled away his entire family (for him that was a wife and two kids), but the payment was reduced to just the one child after his wife protested.

After gambling his wife and children away, the man he'd lost to, Imran, reportedly went to Moshin's house to collect what had become rightfully his.

It was at this point that Moshin's wife understandably kicked off, protesting so much that a village council known as a 'panchayat' was called to decide what the outcome should be.

Bizarrely, it seems Imran had a leg to stand on when it came to claiming his winnings, and while the council ruled that the wife and one son were allowed to stay behind, he was given the other child as payment for the debt.

The incident took place back in 2015, but has recently hit news headlines as police have finally agreed to investigate what happened.

Moshin, who was reportedly a well-known gambling addict, had been married since 2012 and since fathered two sons before the whole ordeal led his wife to divorce him. She then married a younger man from another New Delhi district.

According to the Times of India, Moshin's wife also filed a police complaint against him and five other men, but was not taken seriously and they refused to take the case.

It's clearly taken Moshin's ex-wife a long time to get anyone to listen to her, having reportedly reached out to many for help, only to receive none.

She eventually filed a petition in a district court, and yesterday the court finally ordered the police to register a case against the accused.

Thankfully, the incident is now under investigation, and police have set up a dedicated team to track down the accused - and, we're hoping, the child.

Fingers crossed the family will soon be reunited.
