A French prankster has been taking the Olympic spirit to the streets by performing events on unsuspecting members of the public, and p***ing people right off in the process. You can check out his efforts in the video below.

You might recognise Remi Gaillard from a few other famous pranks that he's performed, like when he snuck onto the field at a French Cup final and met the then-president Jacques Chirac, or when he staged a gigantic game of Pac-Man?

Well, he's got more than seven million subscribers on YouTube, and has more than a billion views across his whole profile, so if you haven't heard of him directly, chances are you'll have come across some of his work.

Anyway, on this occasion, he's been dressing up as competitors at the Olympics and involving passers-by in his shenanigans.

That involves jumping on people's backs while pretending to be an equestrian sports person, picking up people's stuff and hurling it like a hammer or a javelin, and even wrestling a bloke at the beach.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the people on the receiving end of these japes are usually pretty unhappy about it.

After all, imagine if you were just lying down on the beach minding your own business when someone came up behind you dressed as a Greco-Roman wrestler and started grabbing at you.

You'd be pretty wound up, wouldn't you?

Towards the end of the video, someone gets so irate they hit Gaillard pretty hard over the noggin with a wooden crate.

That's gotta hurt.

This is just annoying.

If you're going to act like that to people though, you have to expect they're going to try to whack you.

Whether it's your thing or not, it's definitely popular, and more than 1.1 million people have watched Gaillard's antics since the video was shared a few days ago.

One person commented: "Welcome to the Trollympics, presented by the King Rémi."

Another one said: "With all that sprinting, Rémi could be competitive for the actual 100-metre dash Olympic event."

The canoeing was a popular event.

A third said: "Imagine you're just chilling on the beach and suddenly this dude comes along and jumps on your back to wrestle you."

Imagine, indeed. You'd probably want to spin his jaw, but you've got to catch him first.
