Apparently, Warner Bros. has been trying to get a Batgirl movie off the ground for some years, and Joss Whedon was set to write and direct the film. He left the project in 2018 after struggling to get the story right and Warner Bros. has now found a new team to bring this much-loved DC character to the big screen.
Christina Hodson, who has written 2022's The Flash, is writing the screenplay for the upcoming film, with Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, who were behind 2020's Bad Boys for Life, directing.
This comes as The Batman movie starring Robert Pattinson is due to land on our screens later this year, after filming wrapped in March 2021.
With casting for the film only just beginning, it's unlikely we'll see the new Batgirl movie before 2023.

Barbara is the daughter of Commissioner James Gordon - aka Batman - so it's only natural that being a superhero runs in the family.
The shortlist of actresses being considered for the role of Batgirl was exclusively revealed by Deadline. Nothing has been confirmed, but an insider told the publication four actresses were due to take screen tests in July 2021. Those actresses are:

Plot details are being kept under wraps for now, but we do know that Barbara Gordon, who first appeared in the DC Comics in 1967, is the girl behind the cape in this version.
According to Deadline, Gordon is the most established version of the Batgirl character and was first introduced in 1961 as Betty Kane. Barbara's powers include: Computer Hacking, Genius Level Intellect and Eidetic Memory, Investigation (trained by Batman himself), Law and of course, a wide range of Martial Arts. Barbara is also gifted with Sewing - she designed and sewed her first Batgirl costume and she's also got stealth.
We can't wait to see what this new movie will bring to the character.
