Lil Nas X was left speechless after he was given his own national day in his hometown of Atlanta, Georgia.

Lil Nas X's talents previously caught the attention of Dolly Parton, after he covered her hit 'Jolene' on BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge. Now, his entire hometown has celebrated him after 20th October was declared by Atlanta City Council Lil Nas X Day.

"The Atlanta City Council is pleased to recognise Lil Nas X for his success in the world of music, entertainment and popular culture," said the official city council declaration of the day.

His success with the release of 'Old Town Road,' his huge TikTok following and his "considerable impact on the LGBTQ community" were cited in the document.

"Now, therefore, I, Antonio Brown, a member of the Atlanta City Council, on behalf of the citizens of Atlanta, do hereby proclaim this 20th day of October 2021 Lil Nas X Day in the city of Atlanta in recognition of his tremendous success and ability to break barriers in music and popular culture."

"His artistic influence and transformative music continue to shape Atlanta and the World," it concluded.

Lil Nas X appeared choked up as he said a few words about the recognition. "I think I'm gonna cry," he said.

"But seriously, this is amazing. I did not imagine I would be here four years ago when I was like at my sister's house like on the floor."

"I mean life just keeps getting better, I'm getting scared," he joked.

You can watch Lil Nas X's reaction in the tweets below from local journalist Maya T. Prabhu.

Lil Nas X is a highly influential artist, which hasn't come without controversy. He recently released his album Montero and caused a stir with its er... arrival.

Previously Lil Nas X launched a range of trainers which contained real human blood. Nike took the star to court over the shoes, which appeared to rip off the Nike logo.

Lil Nas X has made a fortune from his music already, and he's only really just getting started. Following the release of 'Old Town Road' with Billy Ray Cyrus, Lil Nas X became the first openly gay musician to receive a Country Music Award.
