The third season of Snowpiercer, the post-apocalyptic thriller series from Netflix, is due to drop soon and fans are already looking ahead to season four - we can't say we blame them.

For those who have never watched it, Snowpiercer is based on the 1982 French graphic novel Le Transperceneige, which follows the passengers on an ever-moving train that circles the globe - which has become an uninhabitable frozen wasteland.

Describing the hit series, Netflix said: "Earth has frozen over and the last surviving humans live on a giant train circling the globe, struggling to coexist amid the delicate balance onboard."

Snowpiercer season 4 release date

Snowpiercer season four was confirmed as filming for season three in Vancouver had wrapped.

A release date for season three hasn't yet been confirmed, so it's impossible to say when season four will land. But at least we can rest assured knowing it's not the end of the track for this series yet, so to speak. We'll let you know as soon as there's an update.

Snowpiercer season 4 trailer

As season four is only in the early stages at the moment, there isn't a trailer yet. We'll let you know as soon as there is one. In the meantime, here's the trailer for season three.

Snowpiercer season 4 cast

This post-apocalyptic sci-fi series stars Daveed Diggs (Black-ish, Velvet Buzzsaw), Iddo Goldberg (Peaky Blinders, Secret Diary of a Call Girl) and Mickey Summer (Low Winter Sun, The Mend), so we would expect to see these three in any new series.

Diggs portrays Andre Layton, an introverted character who spends his days tending to his cage of rats. He's barely surviving the claustrophobic conditions onboard the train and reluctantly gets tied up in solving a murder. Layton then uncovers the mystery surrounding another character, Mr Wilford (Sean Bean), who then attempts to protect their identity. Layton leads the revolution onboard.

Goldberg plays Bennet Knox, who, as one of the original engineers who designed the train, knows some of the deepest secrets about Snowpiercer.

And Summer plays Bess Till, who is part of the train's security force. Like Layton, she finds herself at the centre of a mystery which rocks the train's delicate status quo and later becomes part of Layton's revolution. In season 2, Till is promoted to Train Detective by Layton.

As for the other characters who could be returning for season four, we can only go off who is in season three. Radio Times predicts that Jenifer Connolly could reprise her role as Melanie in season three, despite the fact that she appeared to be killed off at the end of season two (which was left on a massive cliffhanger).

Sean Bean is very likely to reprise his role as Mr Wilford, with his character being at the centre of a mystery.

We could also see the return of Alison Wright as Ruth Wardell, Rowan Blanchard as Alexandra Cavill, Lena Hall as Miss Audrey, Sam Otto as John Osweiller, Annalise Basso as LJ Folger, and Steven Ogg as Pike, who were all lined up to return in season three.

All we know for definite at this stage is that a Snowpiercer season four is happening. As soon as anything else is confirmed, we'll let you know.
