Alec Baldwin Hits Back At George Clooney Over 'Unhelpful' Comments

In his first interview since the fatal shooting on the set of Rust, Alec Baldwin slammed George Clooney for comments that were made

Alec Baldwin has slammed George Clooney's comments that came after he fatally shot cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust.

In his first tell-all interview, the 63-year-old actor hit back at Clooney, 60, who told Marc Maron's WTF podcast that the death was 'infuriating' and 'insane'.

Clooney said: "First of all, I’ve never heard the term 'cold' gun. I’ve never heard that term. Literally, they’re just talking about stuff I’ve never heard of. It’s just infuriating.

“Every single time I’m handed a gun on a set - every time - they hand me a gun, I look at it, I open it, I show it to the person I’m pointing it to, we show it to the crew."

He added: "Everyone does it. Everybody knows. Maybe Alec did that, hopefully he did do that."

Speaking to ABC's George Stephanopoulos, Alec hit back at Clooney's criticisms, saying: "There were a lot of people who felt it necessary to contribute some comment to the situation, which really didn't help the situation at all.

"If your protocol is you check the gun every time - well good for you, good for you.

"I've probably handled weapons as much as any other actor in films, with an average career, again shooting or being shot by someone.

"In that time, I had a protocol and it never let me down."

Halyna, who was 42, was shot and killed when the gun being held by Alec fired a live round despite the actor believing the firearm was 'cold'.

The director of the film, Joel Souza, was also wounded and hospitalised during the incident.

Baldwin has claimed that he 'didn't pull the trigger', telling Stephanopoulos that the gun inexplicably went off after he picked it up.

Baldwin said: "I think back, I think, 'What could I have done?'.

"The trigger wasn't pulled, I didn't pull the trigger. I would never point a gun at anyone at point a trigger at them, never."

He added: "Someone put a live bullet in the gun - a bullet that wasn't even supposed to be on the property."
