Why Does Your Dog Give You That Weird Look When It Goes For A Dump?

Why Does Your Dog Give You That Weird Look When It Goes For A Dump?

I know you’re pooing bro, don’t look at me.

Why does my dog look smug when he goes for a dump in a very public place where cackling teenage girls have to watch me pick up shit, much to my embarrassment?

Is that why, because he knows every time someone sees me doing it, it shatters even more of my already fragile confidence?

Well, actually no. The answer is much more impressive, as Dr. Kathryn Primm explains in a recent blog post on iheartdogs.com.

Essentially the dogs know that while they do the business, they are exposed to attack, and they look to you as their bodyguard, as they are unable to defend themselves for that short amount of time.

As Dr Primm explains:

"Defecation is one of the times in an animal's life when he is at his most vulnerable. He must posture to perform the task and because of this, he is not in a position to readily fight or flee. In fact, it would be rather difficult for him to defend himself or to escape danger while he is eliminating. Your dog is instinctively aware of his defencelessness."

So there you go, you are your dog's poop protection agent.

One animal that has no toilet issues though is this well mannered cat.
