Unfortunately, they’re unable to bring too much clarity to the situation, because it seems as if the truth is that they simply don’t know.
The show was called off this weekend because the set was badly damaged during Storm Arwen, and so far we haven’t been given a concrete date for the return.
Hosts Ant and Dec have now revealed even they aren’t sure when the production will start up again, claiming they’ve no idea when the celebrities and staff will be able to get back into the Welsh castle that is staging the programme for the second year running due to Covid-19.
This would never have happened if they’d have been able to go to Australia, that’s for sure.
Joking about the show’s usual opening line, Ant started the video by saying: "Hello and welcome to We're Celebrities - Get Us In There!"
Dec then said how the veteran presenting duo are ‘desperate to get back on the telly’, although they aren’t sure when that will happen.
He added: "I've got an update - site was quite badly damaged during the storm and they are in there working round the clock to try and get it back up and running and back up to speed so we can get back on air as quick as humanly possible.”
Ant then added that they’ve got their ‘fingers crossed’ for a speedy return, sharing a scene of the freezing cold Welsh seaside.
He said: "Little update from us we went on the coldest walk in the world today, it was very cold."
Furthermore, he said that he’s been keeping himself fed with some very specific culinary choices while they’re being forced to kick their heels.
Ant and Dec captioned the video: "More news from the kitchen! The @imacelebrity team are working round the clock to get us back on your tellies ASAP! Meanwhile we hope you’re enjoying a better meal than a crisp sandwich."
An ITV spokesperson confirmed in a statement that the celebrities have been taken out of the castle as a result of the damage.
They said: "Whilst we get the production base back up and running after suffering technical issues due to the storm, we have removed the celebrities from the castle.”
We’ll just have to wait and see what happens next.
