Arnold Schwarzenegger And Wife Maria Shriver Officially Divorce 10 Years After Split

Arnie's former wife, Maria Shriver, filed for divorce in July 2011 - now, ten years later, it's official

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver are officially divorced - 10 years after filing due to 'irreconcilable differences'.

According to court sources that have confirmed the news to Fox News, the divorce was finalised by a private judge who was appointed on 10 November and signed it off on Tuesday morning (28 December).

Shriver, 66, filed for the divorce from her 74-year-old (now ex) husband back in July 2011 after it emerged that he had secretly fathered a child with housekeeper Mildred Baena in 1996.

The actor has maintained a relationship with his son, Joseph and wrote about the affair and child in his memoir Total Recall: My Unbelievably True Life Story.

In it, he said: "The minute we sat down, the therapist turned to me and said, ‘Maria wanted to come here today and to ask about a child – whether you fathered a child with your housekeeper Mildred (Baena)'.

"I told the therapist, ‘It’s true'."

Despite the affair, Schwarzenegger and Shriver maintained a friendship and managed to share family holidays together as well as celebrate his 73rd birthday back in 2020.

The pair have four children - two sons, Patrick and Christopher as well as two daughters, Christina and Katherine.

After stepping down as governor of California, in 2011, Arnie shared a statement where he came clear about the betrayal.

He said: "After leaving the governor's office I told my wife about this event, which occurred over a decade ago.

"I understand and deserve the feelings of anger and disappointment among my friends and family. There are no excuses and I take full responsibility for the hurt I have caused."

And during a chat with shock-jock Howard Stern, in 2015, the actor praised Joseph but said it was a difficult position for him.

He said: "He's terrific he totally understands the situation, so it all has worked out. It's a very tough situation for him. It's a very tough situation for my kids. Very tough situation for my family. It was tough for everybody. But it has happened and now we have to figure it out, right?"

Back in 2019, Arnie attended the graduation of Joseph alongside Mildred Baena after their son - a business major - collected his diploma from Pepperdine University in Los Angeles.

Sharing the news to his Twitter account, the former Mr Universe said: "Congratulations Joseph! Four years of hard work studying business at Pepperdine and today is your big day! You have earned all of the celebration and I'm so proud of you. I love you!"
