There's always an element of danger in getting a tattoo done in a language that you don't speak, with a strong chance you could end up with a cool-looking slogan that unfortunately means something completely different to what you asked for - or something that doesn't make sense at all.

Being a celebrity doesn't mean you're immune to this particular bit of bad luck either - just ask Ariana Grande, who wanted a tasteful little tattoo in honour of her new track '7 Rings', written in Japanese. Instead, however, she ended up with a tattoo that reads 'shichirin', a type of small BBQ grill.

After the photo was initially shared over on her official Japanese account, and the mistake pointed out, many fans questioned whether it was an actual photo of Ariana's hand. However, in the comment section she confirmed it was indeed her hand, her tattoo and her mistake.

Replying to one fan, she wrote: "Indeed I left out [Japanese characters] which should have gone in between.

"It hurt like fuck and still looks tight. I wouldn't have lasted one more symbol lmao. But this spot also peels a ton and won't last so if I miss it enough, I'll suffer through the whole thing next time."

She followed up the post with a second saying: "Also... huge fan of BBQ grills." Same, mate, same.

However, she has since deleted the comments and is presumably applying for a place on Tattoo Fixers.

The tat was originally shared by LA based tattoo artist KanenAvasard, who posted the photo with the caption: "If you didn't know, @arianagrande is a G. #tattoo #singleneedle #losangeles #forthesinners #kanenavasard."

And in response to the comments about her 'weird' looking hand, Ariana wrote: "This felt super good Kanen Avasard joke (everyone thinks this is a fake hand but it's indeed...my hand).

"Yooooo this is a super weird photo. My bad. Why does it look so smooth and yet you can see every finger print pattern I have."

So let this be a lesson to you all: when it comes to tattoos make sure you research, research, research first. Or, you know, just get a permanent tribute to a tiny grill, whatever - both good options.
