Brad Pitt decided to have a bit of fun with his acceptance speech for the Best Supporting Actor BAFTA this evening, having made references to two of the UK's most contentious topics right now: Brexit... and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepping down from their roles as senior members of the Royal Family.

AWKWARD.

Pitt - who had been nominated for the accolade for his turn as Cliff Booth in Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood - couldn't make it across the pond to the ceremony due to 'family commitments', but he asked co-star Margot Robbie to pick up the award on his behalf.

Robbie unfolded a note Pitt had asked her to read out, with his message kicking off with an amusing dig about Brexit.

Speaking on his behalf, she said: "Hey Britain! Heard you just became single. Welcome to the club!

"Wishing you the best with the divorce settlement."

That one was met with laughter throughout the auditorium, but Pitt didn't stop there.

After thanking British Academy for the 'extreme honour', along with cast and crew from Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood, Pitt turned his attention to the Royal Family - specifically Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who recently dropped a bombshell when they announced they'd be stepping down as senior royals and splitting time between the UK and North America.

Lifting the award up, Robbie continued: "He says that he is going to name this Harry - because he is really excited about bringing it back to the States with him."

Robbie winced and gave a wry smile, adding: "His words, not mine!"

The camera then cut to Prince Harry's brother William and his wife Kate, who were in the audience.

While Kate laughed along, William gave a slightly pained smile as he clapped along with the joke.

It's a reaction that didn't go unmissed by viewers at home.

One tweeted: "Margot Robbie accepted Brad Pitt's Supporting Actor award, and he said he's going to name his award Harry because he's excited to take it to the US... WITH WILLIAM SITTING IN THE AUDIENCE."

Someone else wrote: "Top bants from Brad Pitt. Prince William didn't look too impressed though."

A third added: "BRAD PITT'S WRITTEN SPEECH SAID HE'S NAMED HIS BAFTA 'HARRY' BECAUSE HE'S EXCITED TO BRING IT BACK TO THE USA WITH HIM LMFAOO MARGOT READ IT IN FRONT OF PRINCE WILLIAM AND KATE TOO THIS IS SO FUNNY."

The Royal Family also received a second dig of the evening when actor Rebel Wilson made a reference to Prince Andrew.

Presenting an award at the Royal Albert Hall, Wilson said: "It is really great to be here at the Royal Andrew... Er, er...

"Royal Harry, erm... at this royal place."

As audience awkwardly laughed, the camera shot to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge who looked far from impressed. Again.
