Game of Thrones is one of the best pieces of telly to come out... ever. It has millions of people hooked every week, and according to some sources, each episode costs around £4.1 million to make.
But it all starts with the characters, right? If you don't nail the casting, you're a bit fucked.
Well, did you know that originally, the character of Daenerys Targaryen was not supposed to go to Emilia Clarke?

Yup. Weird, right?
According to Joe.co.uk, the part was originally supposed to go to Tamzin Merchant, she even starred in a pilot episode.
Does she look familiar? She was in The Tudors which was a programme on BBC that apparently got nans and grandads all over the country in a right tizz because there was loads of sex in it. Probably not anywhere near as much as what's in Game of Thrones, though.
John August and Craig Mazin (GoT screenwriters) recently starred in an episode of the Scriptnotes podcast.

Weiss said: "Watching them watch that original pilot was one of the most painful experiences of my life.
"As soon as it finished, Craig said, 'You guys have a massive problem'."

So there you go. It was recast and several other changes were made. Then... ta daaa! Absolute smash hit.
Funny how things work out, ay?
