Dua Lipa may be known the world-over for her catchy pop tracks, but it turns out not everyone knows who the chart-topping singer-songwriter is, as she found out recently during a game for Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Lipa was serving as a guest host for Kimmel's late-night talk show, and decided to have a bit of fun with a segment called Who-A-Lipa?, which involved asking elderly people whether or not they'd heard of Dua Lipa - many not realising that they were speaking to her.

Pretending to her unsuspecting interviewees that she was conducting a survey about music, Lipa ended up discussing everything from her career to outfits, only revealing right at the end who she really was.

"A lot of my fans are young, but I'm always trying to reach a wider audience, so I decided to reach out to some seniors," she said as she introduced the piece.

"These are real people who I interviewed over the internet. I told them I was conducting a survey about music, but didn't tell them who I was."

Many of the subjects admitted they didn't know much about pop music, and also weren't too familiar with a little-known star called Dua Lipa.

"Is that a person?" one asked her.

"Dua Metre?" another replied.

A third gave a confused look and simply said: "Who?"

Lipa then showed them a photo of herself wearing a yellow tartan crop top.

"That's terrible," one woman said in response to the photo. "If I had a daughter, I wouldn't want her to go out in that."

In reference to another photo of Lipa holding two Grammy awards while wearing a risqué safety-pinned dress, she added: "I guess by today's standards that would be fine."

Another fella said the tartan crop top looked like 'she's trying too hard'.

Then the big reveal came, and Lipa told each person that she was, in fact, the singer in question.

The woman who proved to be her biggest critic laughed and said: "Oh, swell. I really got myself in it this time, didn't I?"

Repeating her name incorrectly back to her, one man said in surprise: "Well obviously I had no idea!"

Someone else vowed to run out and buy her CD, while another burst into laughter and said he felt like he'd been 'pranked'.
