Carpool Karaoke is an institution. The segment on The Late Late Show with James Corden was originally inspired by a Gavin And Stacey-themed sketch that the presenter took part in for a Red Nose Day special back in 2011 on British TV.

In the sketch, which you can see below, James and George Michael sang along to songs in a car.

James explained: "Ben Winston and I always thought there was something very joyful about someone very, very famous singing their songs in an ordinary situation.

"We just had this idea: Los Angeles, traffic, the carpool lane - maybe this is something we could pull off."

One person who has been noticeably missing from the segment so far is the biggest male star in the world - Ed Sheeran.

However, they've finally managed to bag him and have released this teaser video in anticipation...

The Ed Sheeran singalong will be aired on Tuesday. The teaser has only been on YouTube for a couple of hours, but is already number 12 on YouTube's trending chart and has garnered an impressive 115,000 views at the time of writing. People are excited.

In the teaser, we see the pair harmonising to some of Ed's biggest tracks, including 'Castle on the Hill' and 'Sing'.

The YouTube description says: "The Late Late Show is heading to London for three incredible shows, starting with Ed Sheeran Carpool Karaoke on Tuesday, and visits from Tom Cruise, David Beckham, Jennifer Hudson, Harry Styles & so many more."

The teaser is only 43 seconds long, but we already know it's going to be huge. It could even overtake Adele's Carpool Karaoke, which reached 42 million views in five days. This made it the biggest viral video originating from a late-night programme since 2013.

Adele's Carpool is now on 159,158,268 views at the time of writing, which is incredible.

Who would've thought that a little segment inspired by a Red Nose Day sketch would turn into a massive worldwide phenomenon?
