Elizabeth Banks managed to shock her fellow guests on The Graham Norton Show on Friday after making an unexpected joke about Prince Andrew, who is currently under fire for his friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Of course, anyone who appears on Norton's long-running Friday night chat show knows the host won't always take it easy on them - however high profile they are.

True to form, Norton whipped out an embarrassing photo of Banks from her teenage years, in which she's sporting a big, curly hairdo, a white polo neck top and matching white hoop earrings.

Well, it's certainly a look.

Most of us would be mortified for our childhood photos to be broadcast to the nation, but quick-thinking Banks was able to deflect the attention onto someone else.

She laughed: "That's my hair!"

As Ricky Gervais asked if there was a 'tree' behind her, Norton added: "That's Marge Simpson hair!"

But Banks, 45, refused to be humiliated, saying: "But look how proud I am.

"I made that necklace myself, I was not really allowed to wear hoop earrings until I was older, those were probably some of my first hoop earrings."

Pointing at a mysterious hand in the picture, Norton then asked: "I've only just noticed this hand - is it someone saying, 'You'll regret this photograph'?"

Banks instantly quipped back: "That's Prince Andrew's hand."

The actor, director, writer and producer was, of course, referring to a photograph believed to be of Prince Andrew posing with his hand around 17-year-old Virginia Roberts-Giuffre's waist. It is believed that Epstein was the man behind the camera.

The topical jibe seemed to leave Kylie Minoque speechless, while Ricky Gervais - who's known for his brash, controversial style of comedy - seemed pretty taken aback, saying: "Oh God, Jesus."

She left Kylie speechless.

Norton then said: "Photoshop, it's just Photoshop!"

Viewers at home were also shocked by Banks' comments, with one tweeting: "Just nearly wet my pants. With shock and laughter... Kylie almost didn't cope."

Someone else said: "I am pleasantly surprised the BBC let that joke about the Prince Andrew scandal get aired. You could pinpoint the moment Graham sh*t himself."

Another said: "Even @rickygervais thinking, 'Ooh I wouldn't have gone there' about Elizabeth Banks's Prince Andrew joke."
