Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson Humbly Accepts Razzie Award For ‘Baywatch’

'Baywatch' was nominated for five of the 10 categories but 'The Emoji Movie' took out the most coveted awards

While a lot of attention was paid to the stars and films at the Academy Awards at the weekend, another award show had taken place the night before that celebrated everything you hate about Hollywood movies.

The Razzies, which has been gathering popularity with each passing year, paid tribute to the absolute shittest pieces of shit that were all heavily promoted and either failed to live up to the hype or were just disgustingly awful.

One of those was the film reboot of Baywatch, starring Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson and Zac Efron. It was nominated for half of the categories but the only award it actually picked up was 'The Razzie Nominee So Rotten You Loved It' - which is half a slap in the face, half endearing.

The Rock posted a video on his Instagram, thanking the people behind the Razzies for being the first winner of the new award.

"It's Oscar Sunday, I'm super pumped and very proud of my buddies who are nominated. I'm pulling for you guys to bring home the gold," he said on the social networking app.

"I'm also excited because I was just informed that I too am bringing home the gold tonight, no not an Oscar, but maybe one day, but a Razzie.

"But here's the cool thing, the movie was so bad, they actually had to create a new category...I'm not kidding.

"Which means the shit sandwich you have been eating is so bad that you eventually started to like it.

"Look we made Baywatch with the best intentions and it didn't work out like that, but I humbly and graciously accept my Razzie and I thank you critics and thank you fans."

To be fair, winning any award in the Razzies would be tough to swallow but the 45-year-old took it on the chin like a champ. With more than 200 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, Baywatch was a certified flop, with an 18 percent critic rating and 56 percent audience score.

Sure, the reboot was never going to be a critic's dream, but it just wasn't as good as it could've been.

Then again, none of the movies that were nominated for a Razzie were.

The big winner of the night was The Emoji Movie, which took out Worst Picture, Worst Director, Worst Screen Combo and Worst Screenplay.

Others who were lucky enough to take home gongs were Tom Cruise for Worst Actor in The Mummy, Mel Gibson for Worst Supporting Actor in Daddy's Home 2, and while Fifty Shades Darker was nominated for a few categories, it ended up with Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-off or Sequel.
