'Avengers' Star Jeremy Renner Reveals He Broke Both Arms In Stunt

'Avengers' Star Jeremy Renner Reveals He Broke Both Arms In Stunt

Ouch.

If you ever broke your arm as a kid you'll have probably done it by performing some stupid stunt. You were probably re-enacting your wrestler and suddenly, SNAP.

Usually, when you get to Hollywood actor level, you're wrapped in cotton wool and the responsibility of doing the stunt is left to the professionals.

However, some actors prefer to do their own. Rowan Atkinson is one (and he's still fully functioning), while Jeremy Renner is another - only, for a time, he is limited in his capabilities.

The Hollywood actor, who is filming for Avengers: Infinity War, also started shooting a new comedy, Tag, when he broke both his arms doing a stunt.

We can only imagine the director's reaction, from behind the camera, was a little like this...

He managed to fracture his right elbow and left wrist, stating: "That's how it goes. It's part of the job."

He was speaking at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival on Friday, ahead of his latest release, Wind River.

"I'm sort of a problem solver, you know," he said. "There will be an effect to it, but it won't stop me from doing things that I need to be doing.

"I'll heal fast. I'm doing everything I can to heal faster."

Of his next project, Tag, he said he should be able to manage filming whilst being temporarily disabled.

"I'm doing a job," he said, "that isn't really requiring a ton of stunts. It's not an action movie; it's a comedy. It just happens to have a few stunts in it.

"So, I don't have to beat a whole lot of people up or do anything crazy. It won't really affect my job.

"It affects how I get dressed in the morning. I can't tie my shoes, but outside of that and everything else, I can kind of get by."

Here's Rowan Atkinson's reaction to Jeremy's ill-fated attempt at stunts...

Moving on to his Avenger films, Renner said that he is often surprised by the amount of visual effects that are added in post-production.

He said: "Visual effects have become a huge part of filmmaking nowadays, and it is also done so well. I remember watching the first Avengers... it was so big and there were so many charcters and so many things going on.

"You can't really understand from the script what the hell you are really doing, just figure out your character and your own piece in this puzzle.

"And then the effects take over. Once we're done with principal photograph, it goes into editing and the effects are added.

"It's the only time that I really watch a movie that I've done because it is a complete surprise to me how it has actually turned out."

Wind River, an American thriller, is due for release later in the summer with Avengers: Infinity War expected in 2018.
