People Are Calling Out The Rock’s ‘Skyscraper’ Poster For Being Unrealistic

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson is set to star in a new movie called Skyscraper and if you're happy to suspend belief then it could be pretty amazing.

Set in the not too distant future, the actor's character, Will Ford, is called in to inspect the security at the tallest building in the world, called The Pearl.

Lo and behold - a group infiltrates it and all hell breaks loose.

Let's leave the plot to one side for a second and talk about the poster, which is a snapshot from the trailer. It shows Johnson hurtling through the air from a crane, hoping to land in a window as the building burns below him.

You don't have to watch the trailer to guess that this feat is slightly unrealistic.

Woah. Woah - don't @ me.

Before you type a retort on your keyboard faster than you can think: I am well aware that most action films don't always rely on the laws of physics or gravity or any other natural law. But come on, this is stretching it a tiny bit.

Thankfully, I'm not the only person who reckons Universal Pictures is taking the piss. In fact, some people have done the actual math to this situation.

Author James Smythe wrote: "I've mocked up some parabolas for The Rock's Skyscraper jump. Red is assuming he jumped up a bit first; green assuming he ran forward and somehow didn't lose momentum; yellow for a sort of squat-thrust thing.

"Whichever you choose, rest in peace The Rock, as you are dead now."

Some agreed with the theory while others posited their own.

Now, let's get to the plot.

If you've watched movies from the 1980s; specifically, action films; ones with Bruce Willis to be even more precise; then you probably sat through that trailer a bit disappointed. Don't get me wrong, it's not a complete rehash of Die Hard, but it's pretty similar.

Both involve a huge building on fire, both involve badass action stars and both have criminals break into said building. Thankfully Skyscraper isn't set around Christmas time because then it would be a bit awkward.

Plenty of people on social media were making the same comparisons - with many pointing out that Bruce Willis was shoeless in Die Hard while The Rock is legless in the non-reboot reboot.
