Most of us know him as the dapper bloke who stands at the entrance of the First Dates restaurant, making all the hopeful love-hungry diners look s**t by comparison.

But guests in the restaurant can rest assured that Fred Sirieix won't swoop out of nowhere and steal their date, as he has got engaged to his girlfriend of two years.

The 48-year-old shared the news on Instagram, posting a picture of him and his 'fruitcake' and confirming in the caption that she had 'said yes'.

Congratulations have since poured in, with co-star Cici Coleman commenting: "Awww Fred!!!!! So so happy for you both."

Fellow co-star Laura Tott also wrote: "Yes Fred! Congratulations. Super happy for you both! Can't wait for the wedding."

Speaking to The Sun, Fred said: "We are delighted. As soon as all this is over we are off to Negril for a party on the beach."

Despite being the face of a TV show in which people look for love, the Frenchman has been private about his own romantic life. When he has shared pictures with his now fiancée, he has referred to her only as his 'fruitcake'.

This will be the first time he has been married, though he did have a 12-year relationship with the mother of his two children, daughter Andrea, 15, and son Lucien, 10, according to The Sun.

Speaking to the publication about his relationship with 'fruitcake', he said: "Occasionally, I'll go for a little wine and some tapas after work with my partner, who I like to call 'fruitcake'.

"It's nice to have a relaxing conversation and chill out when you've had a long day.

"If I do get the chance to be in the kitchen, I love making fresh pasta. I find rolling it out very therapeutic and I get flour everywhere; it's great fun.

"In the evenings I like nothing more than sitting down with a beer and watching something on Netflix."

Well, looks like there's plenty more Netflix 'n chillin' to come for Fred and Fruitcake.
