Wayne Lineker appeared on today's instalment of This Morning to be grilled by presenter Holly Willoughby, who asked him outright: "What's wrong with women your own age?"

Lineker, the Ibiza club owner and brother of footballer Gary, recently hit headlines for his bizarre list of requirements for a girlfriend - including that they be 'intelligent but not boring', have 'no baggage' and not as old as he is 'as that would look weird'.

Ahead of his appearance on Celebs Go Dating, the 58-year-old spoke to Willoughby, 39, and her co-host Phillip Schofield, 58, about his quest for love.

"My family are very concerned about me because when I'm single I tend to get carried away," Lineker said.

"I want to settle down and I don't want to have this crazy lifestyle."

Schofield asked Lineker if he was ever worried women might not be able to trust him, especially as he's often surrounded by 'beautiful women in bikinis'.

But Lineker claimed that, despite popular belief, he's actually a 'very trustworthy person', adding: "Once I'm in a relationship, I'm in a relationship. I've never cheated on a girl in my life."

Willoughby also brought up that list, reading out a section that explained prospective girlfriends should be 'above 30', adding that those aged 28-29 'could work'.

Lineker said: "Between 30 and 45 would be an ideal age for me now."

As Schofield tried to respond, Willoughby interjected, saying: "What's wrong with women your own age?!"

Lineker replied: "I don't know, I couldn't rule it out. I guess everyone has their own attractions, don't they?"

Schofield also read out several statements from the notorious list, with Lineker adding: "It's controversial, I tried to take some things from previous relationships."

But it would appear Lineker's comments didn't make him any better to viewers watching the exchange at home, with one tweeting: "WayneLineker makes my skin crawl."

Someone else wrote: "Does Wayne Lineker think he's some sort of catch?!"

Others noted how 'disgusted' Willoughby looked by the conversation as she grilled the star.

"Holly looked disgusted as did I," one said.

"I can't wait to watch #celebsgodatingto see Wayne Lineker get egg on his face!"
