Australia's favourite singer, dancer and actor, Hugh Jackman, has been given one of the highest accolades in the country.

No, it's not a Logie or even an Academy Award.

The Greatest Showman actor has been awarded an Order of Australia medal for services the performing arts and the wider community. That's the highest level of an Order of Australia - so Hugh must be pretty stoked.

Hugh was targeted for the award for his services in helping eradicate poverty.

Writing on Instagram, the 50-year-old said: "On this occasion, I am reminded that I share the incredible honor with my parents, my siblings, my friends and, especially, with Deb, Oscar and Ava.

"There are countless teachers, coaches and mentors who have taught and inspired me along the way. I will forever be in their debt.

"It is humbling to be amongst so many great Australians who have outstanding achievements in so many fields. Thank you to the Governor General."

He was given the medal during a glitzy ceremony at Government House with Australian Governor-General David Hurley.

Jackman was recognised for starting his own company, Laughing Man Coffee company, which ensures all employees are paid appropriately for their work. In addition to that, all the profits go to educational and community development programs in third-world countries across Africa.

If there wasn't a reason you've found to like the bloke, then this will probably be it.

When it was announced back in June that Jackman was going to receive the award, he said he was extremely humbled by the honour.

He said in a statement: "As the youngest son of parents who made the decision to immigrate to Australia the year before I was born, this honour is especially emotional and humbling to me.

"I am an immensely proud Australian, and am so grateful for the opportunities I have received by being raised there.

"The countless teachers, mentors, institutions who have supported me along the way are immeasurable, and I will always be in my country's debt."

Totally deserving Hugh.
