He may play the tough guy on screen, but it turns out Idris Elba has got plenty of insecurities as the rest of us.

The Luther actor took to social media to share a video with his 3.3 million viewers showing how he'd cast away his iconic beard.

46-year-old Elba is currently in the process of filming a movie version of the Andrew Lloyd-Webber musical Cats and has shaved it off for the role - but turns out he's not a huge fan of his face without the beard.

In the video he explains he just isn't confident about the 'massive space' in between his top lip and his nose.

He said: "It's a kind of a shape thing. Whenever I have to shave off my facial hair it's like what the front door man' - but then every now and again, as I get older, I just have to appreciate it."

His video had a very personal note to it as he spoke of his mum and dad and how his own face reminded him of them.

"And this is my Mum and Dad's face. And not only did they give me this face but they gave me the facial hair, and they gave me the brains behind the facial hair," he added.

However, even with such heartbreaking sentiment he really is feeling the loss without his beard as he explained: "But nah man, I'm missing my shit right now.

"Real talk. I'm making a movie at the moment where they insisted, based on the special effects, that you have to shave it. Struggling!"

But apparently, he's not the only one who's not a huge fan of clean-shaven look - in the clip he said his 'wife' wasn't either.

He said: "I always struggled with this bit between my nose and my top lip, it's like massive, you get me. But anyways, some people like it and a lot don't - like my wife."

Wait, did he say wife? As far as the public know he's only engaged to 30-year-old Sabrina Dhowre however, there have been rumours the pair secretly got married.

Elba is reported to be playing villainous Macavity, in Cats, while Taylor Swift confirmed she is playing Bombalurina.

Jennifer Hudson, Dame Judi Dench, Sir Ian McKellan, James Corden, Rebel Wilson and Jason Derulo, are all also said to have signed up to embrace their inner feline - this could be epic.
