Actor Lou Ferrigno - best known for playing the Incredible Hulk - has got himself a new job as a sheriff's deputy. I'm sure the criminals won't like him when he's angry.

The 68-year-old announced the news on his website, revealing he's set to start working at the Socorro County sheriff's department in New Mexico.

Ferrigno told his fans: "This is the real thing because I've played sheriff over the years in different films. I've done over 40 films. This, I take very seriously and I'm very excited, very proud to be a deputy because my whole life I've always wanted to be a sheriff."

The former Mr Universe stressed that the role was legit, adding: "People assume it's just an honorary thing. It isn't, because I'm certified and I have police powers which I'm very proud of.

"So, I went through all the driving, the shooting, the studying, and it changed my life and I'm very happy to be a real-life hero, protecting life and property."

This isn't the first time bodybuilder Ferrigno has worked for a sheriff's office; he volunteered 20 hours a month to the San Luis Obispo County sheriff's office since 2012 and was also a member of former Arizona sheriff's volunteer sheriff posse in 2016, where Ferringo patrolled the US/Mexican border.

Sheriff Ian Parkinson explained: "Lou started at L.A. sheriffs as a reserve. He was interested in volunteering time here and wanted to commit time to San Luis County because he was a part time resident here as well for many years.

"I'd known Lou for years, so first it was kind of the personality test to make sure he was the type of guy that I thought would represent us well, which I obviously did, otherwise I would not have been friends with him."

Ferringo's dad was a lieutenant at the New York Police Department, something the actor is immensely proud of.

He added: "Growing up, I always wanted to be an officer... People would talk about him in the neighbourhood, Officer Ferrigno, there was a lot of respect. That was something I wanted to earn for myself."
