Ireland Baldwin has hit back at Candace Owens following comments made about her father online - having said the two actually ended up having a 'real conversation' that went a 'long way'.

Baldwin, the daughter of Alec Baldwin and ex-wife Kim Basinger, leapt to the actor's defence after pro-Trump political commentator Owens said the shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was 'poetic justice' for the star - who fired a gun being used as a prop on the set of Rust, which ended up fatally wounding Hutchins.

On 22 October, she had written in a now-deleted tweet: "Alec Baldwin spent 4 years dedicated to painting Donald Trump and his supporters as evil murderers. What has happened to Alec would be an example of poetic Justice if it weren't for the actual innocent people that were murdered by him.

"Pray for their families. So sad."

Owens later amended her stance slightly, saying: "Will correct that last tweet to say Alec Baldwin *killed* someone- not murdered someone, as murder carries a different legal definition."

She added: "Literally not one single thing that Alec Baldwin has said about Donald Trump and his supporters is going to age well."

Baldwin, 26, decided to respond to the comments on her own Instagram Stories, sharing a photo of Owens and saying: "You are the most disgusting, human, cancerous human being I've ever come across.

"Regardless of your foul opinions most of the time, the fact that you would disrespect the life of a woman who was accidentally and tragically killed... Shame on you."

She then posted a screenshot of Owens' original tweet, saying she was going to take an 'Instagram break' as she was 'ashamed to [breathe] the same air' as her.

Baldwin continued: "Be a republican. Be unvaccinated. I don't give a f**k. There are plenty of liberal ones that I support as well... But one f*****g thing I find myself doing is being RESPECTFUL.

"But we aren't debating masks and vaccines and abortion and trans rights here... A woman's life was lost. Your tweets, lack of information, and ignorance are hurting people.

"You and @jackmposobiec don't have a clue what you're even talking about and you usually never do. I respect people's opinions... but if you support these absolute clowns... please don't follow me anymore. I beg."

But shortly afterwards, in a slightly unexpected turn of events, Baldwin shared a screenshot revealing she and Owens had actually had a private conversation, which ended with her thanking the Trump supporter for 'taking the time to have a real conversation' and wishing her a 'peaceful evening'.

Owens replied: "No problem. Same to you."

In her Stories, Baldwin said: "Some times having an actual conversation can go a long way...

"I will always stand for what I do... but one thing we need of in this world is perpetuated hate and anger and fighting... especially in the wake of this tragedy. Thanks, again, to everyone who have been so kind and supportive."

On 21 October, Alec Baldwin unknowingly fired a loaded prop gun while rehearsing on the set of Rust in New Mexico, killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injuring movie director Joel Souza.

In a statement the day after the accident, the 30 Rock actor wrote on Twitter: "There are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother and deeply admired colleague of ours.

"I'm fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred and I am in touch with her husband, offering my support to him and his family.

"My heart is broken for her husband, their son, and all who knew and loved Halyna."
