It’s Been 21 Years Since Angelina Jolie And Brother James Haven Kissed At Oscars

It's been 21 years since Angelina Jolie and her brother James Haven set tongues wagging with their kiss on the red carpet at the Oscars in 2000.

A then-24-year-old Jolie had just won the Best Supporting Actress gong for her role in Girl Interrupted. In her acceptance speech, Jolie said: "I'm surprised nobody's ever fainted up here.

"I'm in shock, and I'm so in love with my brother right now.

"He just held me and said he loved me, and I know he's so happy for me. And, um, thank you for that."

But it was what happened after she collected her award that really hit headlines.

The two actors shared a kiss on the lips, which caused quite a stir with some people suggesting it was a bit of a sexually-charged kiss for siblings.

However, the pair hit back at claims of impropriety, with Jolie branding them 'pathetic' and Haven saying the kiss was 'simple and lovely'.

Speaking in 2000, Jolie told Entertainment Weekly that she had only 'brotherly love' towards Haven, adding: "My parents really loved that moment, and that's what will always matter."

While in 2007, Haven told The Daily Mail: "I did not give Angie a French kiss. It was something simple and lovely.

"She was about to go off to Mexico to finish filming Original Sin with Antonio Banderas.

"I congratulated her on the Oscar win and gave her a quick kiss on the lips. It was snapped and became a big thing."

He went on to say: "It was an amazing moment. Yet it was totally misconstrued."

Haven was a full-time nanny for Jolie's six kids, but was 'dismissed' following her divorce from Brad Pitt, The Daily Mail reports.

An unnamed source told the paper the siblings have since 'drifted apart'.

The source said: "They used to be inseparable; he was very much her go-to companion and was her best friend for so many years as well as a devoted brother.

"James helped raise her kids and he would baby sit whenever Angie and Brad wanted private time. It's fair to say he was one of just a handful of people they felt comfortable looking after them.

"But all of a sudden and with no real explanation their communication seemed to just stop out of nowhere. He does his thing, she does hers and while they may be cordial from a distance you certainly don't see or hear of them being together."
