Jessica Chastain has responded to the reaction from her viral red carpet moment with co-star Oscar Isaac at Venice Film Festival, after social media users went into a frenzy - crowning them the 'hottest couple' despite the fact they're not actually together.

The duo were in Venice for the premiere of their new drama mini-series Scenes From A Marriage, which is a remake of the 1973 Swedish series of the same name by Ingmar Bergman.

As they walked the carpet, Chastain, 44, and Isaac, 42, could be seen holding hands, embracing and smiling at each other fondly.

At one point, Chastain even draped her arm across her colleague's shoulder, prompting him to reciprocate by leaning in to kiss her arm.

The moment was captured on film and shared widely online, with one person tweeting: "This video of Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain is quite literally the sexiest thing I have ever seen."

Another said: "God bless the person who decided to slo-mo this video of Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain in Venice. The tender arm stroke, eyebrow raise... they are giving us the red carpet chemistry that we didn't even realise we needed."

A third wrote: "Ok so this Oscar Isaac / Jessica Chastain red carpet clip is the hottest thing I ever seen."

Now Chastain has responded herself, having simply posted a very apt still of Morticia and Gomez Addams from The Addams Family films.

"Sept 12th," she wrote, as a reference to the series' release date, adding a devil emoji.

Others have pointed out that the two are both married - Chastain to Italian Gian Luca Passi de Preposulo (who is the son of a count), Isaac to 39-year-old Danish screenwriter Elvira Lind - saying people shouldn't take their chemistry too seriously.

One said: "Everyone convinced Oscar Isaac/Jessica Chastain must have something going on just shows we need to bring back romcoms and chemistry test. Stars used to be compatible and put on shows while doing promo!"

Another agreed: "Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain are actors trying to get people to watch an HBO show lol."

The two have also been pals for some time, having befriended each other at Julliard.

Speaking to reporters, Chastain said it was a 'blessing and a curse' to play Isaac's wife in the new show - a blessing because they didn't need to get to know each other and could be open with one another, but also a curse because they couldn't take a break from their togetherness.

According to the Associated Press, Chastain said they even and got to the point 'where we were reading each others minds!', adding: "So I was like 'Get out of my head!'

"I felt on this job that there was no quiet time."

Isaac, who said their children are together in the same play group, also agreed their close friendship posed 'its own challenges' when filming such an intense project as 'you care about the person so much'.

The two, who also starred alongside each other in 2014's A Most Violent Year, used an intimacy co-ordinator and talked a lot to map out the bedroom scenes comfortably.

Isaac said they also watched films together to try and figure out how to represent the sexual side of their on-screen relationship, adding: "There are so many times you don't buy it, and then it can get too gratuitous and you don't really buy that either."
