Actor Josh Brolin has warned against the 'perineum sunning' advocated by Instagram influencer Metaphysical Meagan, saying it left his bumhole 'crazy burned'.

The unusual practice came to light when American Instagrammer Meagan shared a photo of herself in action, saying it gives her 'surges of energy' and promotes 'better sleep'.

However, it seems not everyone's having such luck with it - which is a massive, massive surprise - with Thanos actor Brolin sharing the details of his efforts on Instagram.

Sharing Meagan's original picture, he wrote: "Tried this perineum sunning that I've been hearing about and my suggestion is DO NOT do it as long as I did.

"My pucker hole is crazy burned and I was going to spend the day shopping with my family and instead I'm icing and using aloe and burn creams because of the severity of the pain.

"I don't know who the f*** thought of this stupid s*** but f*** you nonetheless. Seriously."

Meagan, from California, claimed that perineum sunning is an ancient Taoist practice that originated from 'in the Far East'.

She explained: "In Taoism, the perenium or Hui Yin is called the 'Gate of Life and Death'.

"This is a gateway where energy enters and exits the body."

Meagan said a few minutes with her butt pointed at the sun gives her 'almost immediate' surges of energy and finds it 'truly more energising than slamming cups of coffee'.

With such a huge reaction to her first post, Megan wrote a second - outlining further 'benefits', including 'increasing creativity' and helping 'balance sexual energy'.

Meagan advised to only hold this pose for around 30 seconds, up to a maximum of five minutes, because 'the intention is not to tan your butthole'.

She also said the 'ideal' time to do this is between 7am and 9am - though presumably this relies on you living in a place that's actually in daylight by that time, which rules out quite a few of us at this time of year. A shame.

But before you roll out your yoga mat and strip off naked, it seems it's not just Josh Brolin that isn't convinced.

US-based gynaecologist Dr Jennifer Gunter also took to Twitter to warn anyone considering giving it a go, not to.

Retweeting an article about the Instagrammer, she wrote: "I feel confident when I say the anus and perineum have no special sunlight concentrating abilities. You can get melanoma on the vulva and sunburns there are very painful."
