Singer Kelsy Karter Explains Why She Got A Harry Styles Tattoo On Her Face

It's been the question on everyone's lips since she debuted the ink on Styles' birthday.

The internet was understandably confused when New Zealand singer Kelsy Karter revealed the fresh tattoo poking out from the side of her face.

To be fair, anyone who gets a face tattoo gets attention because, um, it's sitting there on your face for everyone to see. But to get Harry Styles on your face for his birthday is a little bit strange.

So naturally everyone was asking why you would get something like that inked onto your cheek. Well, it seems as though the 'Sad Sad Summer' singer did it for all the 'right' reasons.

She sat down with The Edge Afternoon Show to discuss the design and her inspiration behind it.

"I just wear my heart on my cheek and I couldn't really control what went on from there," she said. "As a fellow musician, I really respect what he's doing for rock 'n' roll.

"I'm a female in the modern day movement of rock 'n' roll and he's exposed the kids to sounds they might have not otherwise heard.

"Because he came from the pop world and did a rock 'n' roll album, it's opened doors for people like me. I really respect what he's doing and love what he's doing - and he's nice to look at."

The ink art was administered by famous LA tattoo artist, Romeo Lacoste, and even he seemed a little shocked by her choice of gift. Writing on Instagram, he said: "I can't believe Kelsy Karter got Harry Styles tattooed on her face."

Whether or not Karter has even met Styles is unclear, though she's clearly doing everything she can to make sure he knows about her.

Some would say this latest move may have been a step too far, but hey, if she ends up with a song on his album, then she'll have the last laugh.

Karter's love for Styles is well-known - if indeed you had heard of her prior to this bold tat.

Speaking to i-D in July, the 24-year-old said: "What I love about him from a professional standpoint is that he was the poppiest of pop stars, and then he went off on his own and made a classic rock album.

"For someone like me who wants to live in that world who hasn't been in a boy band, he has opened the door for me. He's introduced the kids to the kind of music I want to make. For that, I'm really grateful.

"I also just want his career. I feel like I'm a female version. I actually moved to America to act, and music became my main thing. Rock 'n' roll is my passion."

We wonder if Harry will reciprocate the kind offer.
