If you've been anywhere near social media, or the internet in general over the last few days, then odds are you'll have encountered Kim Kardashian's bold outfit from this year's Met Gala.
Appearing in a head-to-toe blackout Balenciaga ensemble, Kardashian sent shockwaves around the fashion world, while simultaneously leaving a whole lot of people completely and utterly baffled.
With many left scratching their heads as they tried to decipher just what the outfit actually represented, Kim herself has finally left a few subtle hints as to what her inspiration might have been.
Those attending the annual celebration were required to follow a strict dress code which fell in-line with this year's theme, 'American Independence'.
For those struggling to put the two together, Kardashian has taken to Instagram and offered something of an explanation for her garment choice, writing: "What's more American than a T-shirt head to toe?"
The 40-year-old added a little extra context to her reasoning, sharing comments from a number of fashion bloggers who praised the way she tackled the theme.
One of those comments explained: "The extremity and the simplicity. A black t-shirt (a very American invention), a shroud and a train.
"The power of making yourself known while disguising yourself. Genius. Pure brilliance."
However, she would go on to share further theories that delved deeper into the outfit's meaning, linking it to the attitude towards sexuality in America.
In a tweet shared to her another of her stories, one fan wrote: "For someone who is always criticised for being overly sexual, Kim showed that she can cover every square inch of her skin and still find a way to be criticised and ridiculed. THAT is America"
Another piece of commentary shared by Kim, this time from Instagram fashion account Diet Prada, reads: "When you're so famous you can literally make 'anonymous' your new lewk.
"Say what you want about her new direction, but it's definitely not boring."
While it's hardly a clear, straight-to-the-point explanation, Kardashian's cryptic shares do definitely go some way in revealing what her now-viral look was all about.
One things for certain, if she wanted to get the world's attention to convey her message, whatever that may end up being, she's more than managed it.
