Lewis Capaldi has spoken out about the fact his ex, Paige Turley, is a contestant on the brand new winter series of Love Island - saying he had no idea she was going in, but insisting he'll be cheering her on regardless.

When Turley went into the South African villa at the weekend, she revealed that 23-year-old Capaldi was one of her ex-boyfriends, with reports claiming that 'Someone You Loved' was actually about her.

She also apologised for 'being a b***h' to the Scottish singer, though didn't divulge any specifics.

Now Capaldi has had his say, and true to form he's being a pretty good sport about it all.

Speaking on New Zealand radio show The Edge, he joked that Turley owed him a cut of any winnings, saying that his success was partly behind her being selected for the show.

He said: "The prize is like £50,000 and I'll be like, 'well, listen, they asked you to go on it, right, I'm not saying I'm the reason but also... Slide me two grand'."

He continued: "She never told me she was going on it. That would have been a nice heads up.

"But fair play and good luck to her.

"I'll be f***ing watching it - like go on Paige, come on.

"When she's on a date with a boy I'll be like come on kiss him. I hope she wins."

He added: "I've known her for years. 18 when we first met, 19 when we started going out, 20 when we finished going out.

"It was a very amicable breakup."

Well, that's nice to hear - although we'd expect nothing less from the loveable Glaswegian.

Turley, 22, made the shock revelation about her connection to Capaldi during the opening episode of Love Island.

Turley said: "One of my ex-boyfriends is actually Lewis Capaldi. We dated for a year. According to the papers the song 'Someone You Loved' was about me.

"I'm so sorry, I must have been a b***ch to you."

However, despite the breakup, she says they have remained very close friends.

She added: "Me and Lewis are still very, very friendly. You've seen his social media. He's a very witty, funny guy. So he'll probably make a total joke about it."

She clearly still knows him well.
