Regular viewers of the ITV comedy show Benidorm will know that Rob Dawson (Josh Bolt) has asked Cyd (Laila Zaidi) to marry him, but in reality she is in a relationship with the hapless Liam Conroy, who is played by Adam Gillen.

Yes, the two co-stars have been secretly dating since meeting on set to film the latest series, which is Zaidi's first major role after previously appearing in Doctors.

However, the secret is now out after pictures emerged from a holiday the pair took together.

Luckily for the two of them, they managed to get to somewhere a bit more, well, exclusive than Benidorm (though I'm sure it's just lovely) by heading off to the Indian Ocean island of Mauritius.

Zaidi shared a snap of the two of them looking fairly loved up on her Instagram page, with the caption "Day 3 and I'd say our tans are looking pretty even #gingerbaeproblems"

Well, even people who burn under a hot lamp might stand a chance of tanning just a little bit if their job was pretending to always be on holiday in Spain.

Their characters on screen are very unlikely to develop into a relationship. Liam is a hapless character and the son of Tim Healy's bartender, Les/Lesley. Cyd is the glamorous girlfriend of the smart, good-looking Rob Dawson.

Off the screen, though, he seems to have knocked it out of the park.

Gillen has been starring on the show since season four in 2011 after making his name in Channel 4's Fresh Meat.

The recent episode saw some very special guest stars - The Chuckle brothers (or maybe it was Hollywood's Chris Evans) - brought in to guest star as some stage magicians trying to get a gig at the Solana hotel.

Meanwhile, talk of the show getting the chop has been pretty well put to bed by the show's creator Derren Litten.

Reports in The Sun had suggested that the show was going to be cut from the schedule, but he took to Twitter to say:

If the show does get the chop, that tweet is not going to age well.

Until then, the award-winning show will continue to be broadcast on ITV on Wednesdays.
