Friends star Matthew Perry has called off his engagement to partner Molly Hurwitz.

Perry, 51, popped the question to 29-year-old Hurwitz late last year, but the pair have now parted ways.

In a statement to People, Perry said: "Sometimes things just don't work out and this is one of them. I wish Molly the best."

The couple started dating back in 2018 and got engaged in November last year, with Perry calling her the 'greatest woman on the face of the planet'.

The news of the split comes days after Perry joined his Friends co-stars for an eagerly anticipated reunion special.

The one-off special saw Perry, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer and Matt LeBlanc all together for the first time since the show ended in 2004.

During the show, Perry shocked Friends fans by revealing that he thought he was 'going to die' if people didn't laugh at his jokes while filming.

The actor spoke about how he often struggled when delivering his lines in the studio.

He said: "At least to me, I felt like I was going to die if they didn't laugh."

Perry continued: "It's not healthy for sure, but I would sometimes say a line and they wouldn't laugh, and I would sweat and just go into convulsions if I didn't get the laugh I was supposed to get. I would freak out."

His former colleagues were clearly shocked by his admission, with Lisa Kudrow saying to him: "You didn't tell us that.

"I don't remember you ever saying that."

Perry replied: "Oh yeah, I felt like that every single night."

Meanwhile, castmates Aniston and Schwimmer dropped their own Friends bombshell by admitting that they had 'crushes' on each other while filming the show.

Interviewing the cast, James Corden asked: "Will you allow me to ask what I would consider a cheeky question? It's hard not to recognise that you're all young, hot, good-looking successful actors.

"It's inconceivable to me that there weren't perhaps off-screen romances."

Aniston slyly responded: "Well... I mean... David... the first season..."

Replying to his co-star, Schwimmer said: "The first season... we... I had a major crush on Jen."

Aniston then confirmed: "It was reciprocated."
