Pawn Stars star Richard 'Old Man' Harrison has died at the age of 77, as confirmed by a post on his son's official Facebook page.

The post read: "It is with heavy hearts that we acknowledge the passing of Richard Benjamin Harrison (known as 'The Old Man' to Pawn Stars fans the world over) this morning. He was surrounded by loving family this past weekend and went peacefully.

"The team at Gold & Silver Pawn and the Pawn Stars family is grieving his loss. He will be remembered as the best father, grandfather and great-grandfather you could have by his family and by fans as the sometimes grumpy (always loving, however), often wisecracking, and voice of absolute reason on the History television show Pawn Stars.

"Services are pending and the family appreciates your prayers and kind words."

Harrison's cast bio on the website for The History Channel, which airs Pawn Stars, says that he moved to Vegas in 1981 after retiring from the Navy and 'losing it in the real estate market'.

"All these years later, he is a favorite of Pawn Stars fans from young kids to those in his own demographic," the bio explains.

"He tells it like it is, never mincing words or handing out an undeserved smile. He is a family man through and through and is generous to a fault when it comes to grandkids and his newest great-grandchild.

"Always asking 'What's new?' when he sees you, even if that is every day, he wants to know what is happening at the store from financials to funny stories. He may come off curmudgeonly but is a sweetheart like no other. He is wonderful in his wisdom and awesomely adorable."

Many people have taken to social media to pay their respects to the late star, including the History Channel, which said it was 'deeply saddened'.

One fan also tweeted: "My thoughts and prayers are with the Harrison family. It was a pleasure watching the Old Man on Pawn Stars. I'm sorry for your loss. Rest in peace Old Man Harrison."

Another wrote: "Richard 'Old Man' Harrison from the TV show Pawn Stars passed away today at the age of 77. He was my favorite from that show."

Rest in peace.
