Paul Rudd has long been acknowledged as one of the nicest guys in showbiz, and now he has another feather in his cap as People magazine's Sexiest Man Alive.

Five days before Rudd was officially named as this year's winner, celebrity news website Page Six - a subsidiary of The New York Post - ran a story claiming to have inside information that Captain America star Chris Evans would be named the winner instead.

However, instead of graciously admitting their error once it transpired that Evans' Avengers co-star would be taking the top spot, the NY Post instead chose to pen a scathing hit-piece against Rudd.

The article reads: "Paul Rudd has been dubbed People magazine's Sexiest Man Alive. I think I speak for many women out there when I say - huh?"

Writer Nicki Gostin goes on to tell Rudd that even though he is 'adorable, cute-as-a-button, seemingly ageless, charming, delightful, mensch-y, endlessly affable - you're just not sexy'.

She writes: "Yes, 'sexy' comes in many forms - but 'Ant-Man' isn't one of them."

Rudd was later asked about the article during an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Monday (15 November), and when pressed over whether he agreed with the NY Post's verdict fired back with an amazing response.

He said: "Hey, that might be the first thing I ever read in The New York Post that I agree with. That's not fake news."

Elsewhere, the actor also claimed he expects those close to him to give him 'so much grief' over his new title, but that he's going to 'lean into it hard' nonetheless.

He said he hopes his new title will now grant him an invitation to 'those sexy dinners' with George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Michael B Jordan - all past winners.

On other ways in which his life might change thanks to the accolade, Rudd said: "I figure I'll be on a lot more yachts. And I'll probably try to get better at brooding in really soft light.

"I like to ponder. I think this is going to help me become much more inward and mysterious."

Rudd's next project is Ghostbusters: Afterlife, due for release on Thursday 18 November, in which the world's sexiest man stars alongside Bill Murray, Carrie Coon, McKenna Grace and Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard.
