The car accident that left Kevin Hart seriously injured has been put down to the reckless nature of the driver, according to investigators.

Jared Black, 28, was behind the wheel of Hart's 1970 Plymouth Barracuda in the early hours of 1 September when he lost control.

The 40-year-old actor and comedian was a passenger in the vehicle along with Black's fiancée, Rebecca Broxterman, 31. All three were seriously injured with Hart sustaining 'major back injuries'.

It has been reported that the car went down an embankment after turning onto a highway near Malibu, California. It knocked over a fence and hit a tree so hard that it was uprooted.

According to Sky News, none of those in the car were wearing seat belts.

A statement was released by Hart's attorney on Thursday which will be the first time he has spoken out since the crash.

It was obtained by Entertainment Weekly and read: "I have nothing but love for Jared and wish him and Rebecca a speedy recovery".

NBC reported that the cause of the crash was determined to be reckless driving which is defined as 'a person who drives a vehicle upon a highway in willful or wanton disregard for the safety of persons or property is guilty of reckless driving," the report says.

The publication was also told by attorney Andrew Brettler that the performer isn't expected to return to full time work until early 2020, assuming that everything stays on track with his physical therapy.

He explained: "While he's doing a little work here and there for the film [Jumanji], he doesn't expect to be fully back to work until the new year."

Just days ago, fellow actor Tiffany Haffish spoke to ET at the Harper's Bazaar ICONS event in New York City, telling the news outlet: "He's OK. He's doing fine. As far as I know, from the last I heard, he's fine."

She added: "He's already walking. He's good," although she did also admit that Hart's 'back gonna hurt'.

The Night School actor also pointed out that Hart had mocked her when she was injured herself, saying: "He was making fun of me because I tore my meniscus."

She went on: "And look, I'm rocking high heels and I'm walking. I might walk with a limp, but call me a pimp. And now I'm gonna make fun of you. When you get back, moving good, Kevin, I'm coming for you. I'm coming for your back."
