How you feel about Valentine's Day right now may depend massively on how your evening went yesterday.

If you're head over heels in love or just the blubby sentimental type, then it may have been the best night of your year.

But for Sam Smith, it's not a day to look forward to.

Speaking to Roman Kemp on Capital FM, the singer said they wanted to 'destroy' the celebration.

The 27-year-old said: "It's my twenty seventh year of being single on Valentine's Day. I'm over it. It's offensive. Yeah I'm sad today. Today's a sad day. It's more like a funeral."

Bleak.

As if their stance on the occasion wasn't clear enough, the 'Like I Can' singer reiterated their point on Heart Breakfast, saying: "Look I don't want to be a Debbie downer but this isn't my favourite day. I'm quite anti Valentine's Day."

Sam added: "I used to work in Clintons cards, that's probably why I hate Valentine's Day."

It seems pretty understandable how a combination of being single and working for Clintons cards might eradicate someone's appetite for Valentine's Day.

Smith was more keen though on Billie Eilish's new James Bond theme song 'No Time To Die' - with the singer well-placed to judge it, having recorded 'Writing's On The Wall' for Spectre in 2015, which earned them the Best Original Song award at the Oscars.

Smith likes Billie Eilish's new song more than Valentine's Day, that's for sure.

Discussing Eilish's tune, the 'Stay With Me' singer said: "It depends on how much pressure you put on yourself I think. I put a lot of pressure on myself and I didn't realise how people really have in their head what a Bond song is so you're never gonna please everyone, but she's done such a beautiful job and she's kept it classic which I'm so happy about.

"Yeah I'm really impressed I think it's amazing. Everything she does I think is amazing."

Last year, Smith came out as non-binary, changing their pronouns to they/them.

In a tweet, they said: "Today is a good day so here goes. I've decided I am changing my pronouns to THEY/THEM after a lifetime of being at war with my gender I've decided to embrace myself for who I am, inside and out...

"I'm so excited and privileged to be surrounded by people that support me in this decision but I've been very nervous about announcing this because I care too much about what people think but f*** it!

"I understand there will be many mistakes and mis-gendering but all I ask is you please please try. I hope you can see me like I see myself now. Thank you."
